Become a Tutor

Tutor Overview

Our Community Homework Help Program is one of our most essential programs. Designed to provide a consistent and reliable free community tutoring program for grades K-12 in a variety of subjects, we aim to connect students with student tutors to help foster academic success both inside and outside the classroom.

We are in need of tutors for this crucial program. Each tutor would be committed to a MINIMUM of 30 minutes a week (one hour a month). Our brief application and additional information can be found in the slides below.

You will be provided training prior to volunteering for this program. This training will provide all information needed to successfully volunteer and make an impact in our community.

Ready to Tutor? Complete the Application Today!

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS: Please choose ONE ACADEMIC TEACHER to provide a recommendation on your behalf

FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS: Do not complete the Teacher Recommendation Form. Please check the "I am a college student" box on the application.

What Next?

Once you submit your application and we receive your teacher recommendation, you will receive an email from programs@oaklandmillsunited.org . This email will state the grade level(s) and subject(s) that you will be tutoring. You will then select the time slot(s) that you want to tutor for your assigned day. Once you select your slot(s) please maintain them as we will not be changing slots every week! So please select times that you know you will always be available.

We will then follow up with a virtual sit down conversation with you to review all the information you provided.

*Reminder that each tutoring time slot is 30 minutes. You are giving an hour per session: 30 for the actual tutoring and 30 for preparing for the session. You will be awarded 1 service hour per tutoring session. *

You will be emailed information about the mandatory training session, which will teach you how each session is supposed to be run, what you need to do to prepare, and much more needed to be a tutor. After the training session, you are all ready to go to become a tutor for our program!
