Kiana Angela Macharia

Appointed Member

Kiana Angela Macharia serves as Oakland Mills United’s Deputy Director & Community Engagement Officer. She also co-founded the organization along with sam in March 2020. She serves as an Appointed member on the Board of Directors.

Prior to serving Oakland Mills United, she served as President of Oakland Mills High School for two years. She was also a member of Howard County Association of Student Councils where she advocated for OMHS on the county level. She has always believed in the power of student voiced and worked to help amplify it and empower others to join the fight to advocate for the betterment of Oakland Mills community.

She is currently pursuing a degree in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology and a minor in writing at Washington University in St. Louis. She has academic interests in neuropharmacology, psychiatric epidemiology, public health, and health policy. After completing her undergraduate studies, she plans on joining the Peace corps and pursuing a MD/MPH upon her return.

Kiana Angela has particular interests in the social determinants of health and recognizes the role that education and environment play. She is currently an EMT for WashU’s Emergency Support team and Accucare Event Medical. She also serves as a Patient Care Tech in the Pediatric ICU at Barnes-Jewish Hospital. In her free time, she enjoys advocating for change through poetry and spoken word.
